I’m the heart and hands behind The Violet Orange. For those of you who frequent small businesses, you probably know that means I’m not only the one who makes everything you buy from my handmade business, but I am also the bookkeeper, customer service representative, inventory manager, shop cleaner, photographer, website manager, the one who packages online orders, and the person you meet at art + craft fairs spring through the holiday season. In addition to these roles, I’m also a wife, mom, athlete, reader, knitter, and active hospice volunteer.
A few years after all of my kids were born, I pulled back from my teaching job and The Violet Orange was born. I returned to my childhood dream to be an artist when I grew up. Playing with color and pattern and having my hands on beautiful textiles throughout the day, fill my eyes and fingers with joy. That joy, from what I’ve heard from people like you, is what brings you into my shop. And if joy brings you here, I’ve learned that fine craftsmanship is what keeps you coming back. A well-made item with careful attention to all the details throughout the making process means that what I create will last for many years. Thankfully, you and I both appreciate this kind of quality. This not only makes us happy, it is ultimately best for all of us, including generations to come.
